Here’s an inside look at why this testing matters, how we approached it, and what our testers experienced.

Why testing matters

In a market overflowing with skincare promises, how can customers confidently choose the right product? Claims testing bridges that gap, helping users understand how well a product delivers on its promises.

Testing takes many forms: scientific methods like in vivo or instrumental analysis (e.g., measuring transepidermal water loss) provide precise but often abstract results. Meanwhile, consumer perception studies—where real users try the product over time—offer relatable, real-world feedback that resonates with customers. In fact, 92% of consumers say results drive their skincare purchases (Circana, via Business of Fashion).

At SSEEN, we value both approaches. For scientific rigor, we conducted HRIPT (Human Repeat Insult Patch Testing) on a panel of 50 individuals with sensitive skin. This confirmed that our serum is dermatologically tested, non-irritating, and non-sensitising—perfect for those with even the most delicate skin.

However, consumer feedback is the heart of our process. It provides the personal insights that matter most to you, and that’s where our independent consumer perception (or 'claims') testing comes in.

Why SSEEN chose to do our own testing

As a small brand, we aim to deliver products designed around you. Conducting our claims testing in-house allowed us to focus specifically on sensitive skin concerns, ensuring the study reflected real-world usage and outcomes.

This DIY approach also brought us closer to our customers early on, turning testers into partners in our journey. Their feedback not only validated the serum’s performance but also gave us insights to improve and tailor our messaging.

Meet our testers

We handpicked our testers from the amazing SSEEN community on Instagram. The final group consisted of ~40 participants, ranging in age from 27 to 65, representing all genders, skin types, and concerns, including sensitive, acne-prone, dry, and combination skin.

This diversity ensured that we captured a wide range of real-life results, making our findings relevant for everyone.

Our testers used the Silk Skin Serum twice daily—morning and night—for 28 days. Each participant provided before-and-after photos and completed a detailed survey evaluating the serum’s impact across 25 key claims, including reducing fine lines, enhancing hydration, firming skin, and soothing sensitivity.

SSEEN's results speak for themselves

While the full analysis is being finalized, early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive:

  • 87% of participants noticed a visible reduction in fine lines and wrinkles.
  • 89% felt their skin was firmer and tighter.
  • 95% agreed their skin looked brighter, radiant and 'silkier' overall.
